Title: “KALEIDOSCOPE”
The Royal Organizing Committee, in collaboration with the multinational West Nally and the Maeght Gallery in Paris, commissioned fifteen artists of different nationalities to make the posters that were going to represent the World Cup and the fourteen host cities of the matches in Spain in 1982. This poster represents the city of A Coruña, Galicia, Spain.
LA CORUÑA: “KALEIDOSCOPE”, by the Icelandic Erró (Gudmundur Gudmundsson) (1932). This artist's style oscillates between surrealism and Pop Art, although he is generally included in French narrative figuration. The poster appears occupied, practically in its entirety, by a huge collage of images directly linked to football. This technique constitutes the main basis of Erró's artistic production in this period, accumulating in his work an enormous amount of photographs taken from magazines and postcards. The football collage appears crowned by a close representation of part of a central area in A Coruña called “La Marina” which is close to the city hall and the old town,
